About Martha's Vineyard and Directions to the Island
COMMERCIAL TRANSPORT:
You can reach Martha's Vineyard directly by air at the Martha’s Vineyard International Airport (MVY), and by a combination of commercial air, bus, and ferry transports through Boston Logan Airport and Providence T. F. Green Airport. In both cases, commercial bus transport terminates at Woods Hole, MA, directly in from front of the Woods Hole Steamship Authority Terminal—use the following link for bus schedule information www.peterpanbus.com. Providence has an additional option—the Vineyard Fast Ferry (information at www.vineyardfastferry.com) which sails to the town of Oak Bluffs on the Island (from Oak Bluffs you would take a taxi the 7 miles to High Haven House). Similarly, New Bedford has the New England Fast Ferry which docks conveniently at the Vineyard Haven ferry terminal—go to www.nefastferry.com for more information.
Once on the Island, there are options for arrival at High Haven, other than by your own car. Be sure to reserve your ferry crossing for your car well in advance; call for advance steamship reservations at 508-477-8600. High Haven House is within walking distance (less than ½ mile) from the Vineyard Haven ferry terminal, but the walk is up hill. Unless you are traveling very light, please take a taxi. Taxis are available at taxi stands next to the ferry terminal. If you are arriving by air, taxi stands are also located next to the Martha’s Vineyard International Airport (MVY) terminal building.
